Overview

Summary

This project is intended to increase safety and accessibility at the intersection of Willow St and Nicoll St. Work will include demolition, construction of a raised asphalt intersection, concrete sidewalk, reinforced stamped concrete, curb, bollards, and utility cover adjustments.

Background

The Willow & Nicoll intersection has seen many crashes over the years and safety improvements have been requested by the community to address pedestrian safety, speeding, and crash reduction. The raised intersection will slow down vehicles, creating a safer environment for pedestrian crossings and cars entering the intersection from Nicoll St. The design will also serve as a gateway feature into the neighborhood, as many cars enter from I-91. Raised intersections and RRFBs have been implemented in many locations in the city with very positive safety benefits.
