SummaryThe Walnut Street Corridor Signal Improvement Project includes the design and implementation of ITS assets along the corridor and integration of these assets into the DOT multi-modal transportation network. Integration will feature point to point connectivity through fiber optics for communications, upgrades in traffic signal hardware, inclusion of video surveillance systems, addition of high resolution data-capable traffic signal controllers, specialized applications using video algorithms for traffic safety analytics and collision prediction, overall vehicular detection, and the inclusion of short wave radios for future Vehicle to Everything (V2X) applications and communications.
BackgroundThe proposed project will provide signal equipment upgrades along the corridor of Walnut Street between Fair Oaks Avenue and Greenwood Avenue. Walnut Street is a major east-west corridor south of the I-210 freeway serving as a connector between the major north-south corridors of Orange Grove Boulevard and Fair Oaks Avenue and the I-210 on-and-off ramps at Lake Avenue, Hill Avenue, Allen Avenue, and Sierra Madre Boulevard. It is also one of the main corridors for ingress and egress to the Rose Bowl and ins used heavily for stadium-related special events.
