BackgroundThe Golden Valley County Improvement District No. 1 (the “District”) has two active water wells, Well No. 1 and Well No. 2, that it uses to provide domestic water service to its customers. There are approximately 1,600 metered customers and 350 customers that dispense water from the District’s three standpipe facilities. Well No. 1 produces approximately 680 gallons per minute. The original production capacity of Well No. 2 was approximately 625 gallons per minute. The current production capacity for Well No. 2 is between 150 gallons per minute and 170 gallons per minute. Furthermore, Well No. 2 does not have sufficient pumping head to lift water into the high tanks that gravity feed the majority of the District’s customers. Well No. 2 present day pumping capacity has left the District’s distribution system without a redundant source of water, making it vulnerable to water shortages when Well No. 1 fails.
In March – April 2024, the District facilitated successful drilling of a new groundwater production well to 1,189 feet, and the final caliper log shows precise, plumb drilling result. Well No. 5, on the same property as Well No. 2 at 1506 S. Teddy Roosevelt Road (southwest corner of Bolsa Drive and Teddy Roosevelt Road) which is APN 306-19-001. The District maintains driller daily summaries and penetration logs, caliper log, one zonal sample chemistry and hydraulic conductivity report, and as-built well as drilled and cased.
There is an arsenic treatment facility located at Well No. 2. The treatment system blends treated water with untreated water pumped directly from the well to decrease arsenic concentrations below the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Maximum Contaminant Level of 10 micrograms per Liter. The District anticipates but has not confirmed groundwater pumped from Well No. 5 will require arsenic treatment via the existing onsite plant at Well No. 2. The District’s overarching goal is to create a structurally stable, long-lasting, efficient well that functions at the desired volume and quality and enables ease of operation and maintenance.
Well No. 5 is registered with Arizona Department of Water Resources as Well No. 55-930804 This Project – design and construction – is funded through American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) monies.
