BACKGROUNDThe City of Redding is located at the northwest end of Northern California’s CentralValley, approximately 160 miles north of Sacramento and 100 miles south of the Oregonborder. It has a population of just over 95,000, a land area of approximately 60 square miles, and is one of three incorporated Cities located in Shasta County. The City of Redding Water Utility provides water to most residents and businesses withinthe City. The City’s water system has grown steadily since it was originally incorporatedwith the old California Water Service Company system in 1941 and it includes two watertreatment plants, approximately 565 miles of conveyance and distribution pipelines, 17groundwater wells, ten pump stations, and eleven tanks providing a total of 32.7 milliongallons of storage. The eleven tanks are located on nine sites throughout the City’s water service area. Thereare two tanks located at the City’s Hill 900 and Enterprise tank sites. The City hasdesignated tag numbers for each tank site, so tanks that share the same site also share thesame tag number. General information for each of the City’s water tanks is provided in thefollowing Table 1.Page 1Water Storage Tank Repair and MaintenanceTable 1 - General Tank InformationApprox.TagName/Diameter Height NominalNo. Description Construction(feet)(feet) Volume Year BuiltConcrete-1 RS-01 Foothill WTPPartiallyTrapezoidal Varies 6 MG1980Buried2 RS-02 Hill 900 #1Concrete100352 MG19593 RS-02 Hill 900 #2 Welded Steel100352 MG19844 RS-03 Foothill 4MG Welded Steel166274 MG20075 RS-04CascadeWelded Steel746 RS-05ReddingRanchettesWelded Steel1037 RS-06 Enterprise #1 Welded Steel120341 MG1964352 MG198243 3.5 MG 19688 RS-06 Enterprise #2 Welded Steel172436 MG19859 RS-07 Buckeye #2 Welded Steel100362 MG197810 RS-08 Buckeye WTP Welded Steel17211 RS-09BWTP -BackwashWelded Steel42434 MG200119 0.2 MG 1992For more specific information about each of the tanks, refer to the provided tank scheduleand available record drawings. However, it should be assumed that no repairsor maintenance for these two proposed tanks will be required under this maintenancecontract. The City has performed cleaning and interior inspection in each of its tanks on anapproximately five-year interval with the most recent cleaning and inspection effortperformed in the winter of 2021.
