SummaryThe City of Sierra Vista is seeking to establish a contract for a cancer screening program for firefighters. The resulting contract will be for an initial term shall be from the date of execution through September 26, 2027. The City shall have the option to extend the contract for three (3) one-year periods for as-needed services for which pricing can be renegotiated at the time of renewal.
The Sierra Vista Fire Department (SVFD) currently has 52 active firefighters that will have the option to obtain the cancer screening services offered under this contract.
BackgroundThe City was recently awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to fund cancer screening for City of Sierra Vista firefighters. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), firefighters have a 9% higher risk of cancer diagnoses and a 14% higher risk of cancer-related deaths than the general population. Under this grant, the City has funding for all firefighters to receive an initial consult, dermatology consults, full body skin examinations, low-dose lung CT’s and whole-body MRI’s as applicable. The funding will also provide all female firefighters age 30 and above breast cancer screening. All cancer screening services approved and funded through this grant must be completed by September 26, 2027.
