The Mercer County Department of Human Services, Office on Aging/Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC), is accepting proposals for the period of two years (January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2026) to provide a Medi-Cool Program to eligible Mercer County residents in the amount of $87,814 ($25,000 ARPA Funds per year; $18,907 County Funds per year).

As a recipient of the “American Rescue Plan Act Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds” (ARPA), the County of Mercer has determined it is in the best interests of the community to use a portion of this funding to provide assistance to low-income households in need of cooling through the newly updated Medi-Cool Program.

Medically needed air conditioning can be essential for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and individuals with certain health conditions. For example, people with respiratory issues, heat sensitivity, or chronic illnesses may require a cool, controlled environment to manage their symptoms. The Medi-Cool Program is designed to provide older adults and people with disabilities a free air conditioner based on medical and financial need.
