Overview:
Summit County Government (“County”) is soliciting bids from qualified contractors to provide curbside chipping and removal service of wood piles composed of trees, regardless of species, tree branches and Sage up to approximately 12” in diameter, via one (1) pass through every neighborhood in Summit County. The program duration is 8 weeks. Two crews will operate concurrently, one in the North and one in the South. The Chipping Program start date is Monday, June 1, 2026. The program end date is Friday, July 24, 2026. See the schedule and the service area map for further clarification.

Scope of Services:
Contractor shall furnish all labor, transportation, and incidentals necessary to perform the Wildfire Prevention Chipping Program service. Work involves driving through every Summit County neighborhood and stopping at roadside wood piles to chip and haul woody material. Trees, regardless of species, tree branches and Sage are the intended material to be removed through this program. Construction material, treated lumber, rotten wood, roots, stumps, clippings or any items other than trees and tree branches are to be left at the original location for landowner disposal. After wood pile chipping is complete, at each location, Contractor will sweep/blow the area of any residual material. Work shall be completed as set forth in a contract for this project with the County based upon the contractor’s written proposal. The 2026 drop location is the Summit County Resource Allocation Park (SCRAP).

Objectives:

• Protect communities throughout Summit County from wildland fire.
• Reduce wildfire hazards within the program service areas by removing all wood piles.
• Increase landowner awareness of actions they can take to prepare for wildfire. FireAside tracking app supports this objective.
• Utilize woody biomass by delivering to the SCRAP compost program

Date and Time of Service:
Neighborhood wood pile removal activities shall be limited to the hours between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, for eight weeks, from June 1 – July 24, 2026. At the discretion of the Contract Administrator, scheduled operations can be modified and Contractor work can be redirected to other locations to fulfill chip and haul work.
