Description:

The Bismarck Historic Preservation Commission is looking to define the character and historic significance of the “South Capitol” neighborhood area between North 4 th Street and North 6 th Street, stretching between East Boulevard Avenue, south of the Capitol Grounds, south to East Avenue B. This would he inclusive of conducting thorough background research, establishing period(s) of significance, and completing and submitting a written report and all associated site forms for this Class I literature review and Class II reconnaissance survey.

The project area contains four sites individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places within the project boundary which include: the Dr. Albert and Mrs. Evelyn Brandt House, Former North Dakota Executive Mansion, St. George’s Episcopal Memorial Church, and the Grady House. One previous survey has been conducted along the 4 th Street corridor. Additionally, there are two NRHP Historic Districts within two blocks of the boundary of the project area.
