Description


Sealed, per-unit (pay-as-cut) offers are being accepted for the sale and harvesting of merchantable pine and timber at the Beef Research Unit at 9800 North County Road 225, Gainesville, FL 32609 in Alachua County
described under SALE AREAS and identified on Figure 1.


The total sale area is approximately 155 acres composed of three harvest types:
Selective Harvest of Marked Natural Pine (62.1 acres), with trees to be removed marked with blue paint at approximately 6’. This area is composed of two stand-types:


- Natural Longleaf ~1940 (40.7 acres), composed of mature, upland pine last selectively harvested in 2000. Among trees to be removed, an estimated average density of 47 trees per acre, with an average DBH of 13.1” and merchantable height (4” top) of 62’.

- Natural Mixed Pine ~1960 (21.4 acres), composed of two stands associated with Hatchet Creek. Among trees to be removed, an estimated average density of 116 trees per acre, with an average DBH of 13.0” and merchantable height (4” top) of 57’.


3rd-Row Thin with Select in Plantation (60.7 acres), with a reference area to guide thinning marked with blue paint at 6’. This area is composed of two stands:


- 2005 Slash (52.0 acres), composed of planted slash pine. Among trees to be removed, an estimated average density of 133 trees per acre, with an average DBH of 11.9” and merchantable height (4” top) of 40’.

- 2005 Longleaf (8.7 acres), composed of planted longleaf pine. Among trees to be removed, an estimated average density of 170 trees per acre, with an average DBH of 5.6” and merchantable height (4” top) of 30’.

Clearcut (32.5 acres), composed of naturally-seeded mixed pine on an abandoned pasture, established since 2002. All merchantable trees to be harvested. Average density is estimated at 130 TPA, with an average DBH of 8.5” and merchantable height (4” top) of 41’.


Sale boundaries, including interior wetlands and similar, are delineated by roads and or yellow paint at approximately 6’ above ground. Trees to be removed in the Marked Natural Pine stands are marked with blue paint at approximately 6’ above ground.
