Ejector Trailer Bid Cover Letter

The City of McMinnville will receive sealed bids for purchase of a closed top Ejector Trailer

to haul municipal solid waste per the specifications enclosed. Bids will be received no later

than 2:00 p.m. local time, April 14th, 2026, in the office of the city recorder, McMinnville

City Hall, 101 East Main Street, McMinnville, Tennessee 37110, and then at said office

publicly opened and read aloud. Bids will be awarded based on the lowest and/or best bid.

The City reserves the right to reject any and all bids.

Bidders are requested to read the complete specifications invitation carefully and submit

their proposals in strict accordance with the requirements set forth therein.

Any defect which may occur as the result of either faulty material or workmanship within

the period of one (1) year, or defects encountered during delivery, shall be corrected

without expense to the City of McMinnville.

By virtue of bidding, the bidders guarantee the prices quoted in the bid will remain firm for

the duration of 3 months from said time of bid opening.

INVITATION TO BID – Transfer Station Steel Ejector

Closed Top Trailer

1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The City of McMinnville is soliciting sealed bids for the purchase of one (1) new or used 65

cubic yard closed-top ejector transfer trailer designed for use with an existing transfer station

compactor system.

The trailer shall be specifically engineered for municipal solid waste transfer operations and

capable of withstanding repeated compaction forces from a stationary hydraulic ram compactor.

Transfer trailers used in these systems must be reinforced due to the high pressures exerted

during loading.

Bidders should schedule site visit if they would like to inspect compactor which trailer will be

connected to. This can be scheduled with John Austin Assistant Director Public Works 931-271-

2. CAPACITY & DIMENSIONS

• Minimum Capacity: 65 cubic yards

• Body Length: Approx. 38’ – 42’

• Overall Width: 96”

• Trailer Floor Height from ground 72”

• Designed for maximum legal payload distribution

3. BODY CONSTRUCTION

• Body Type: Closed-top ejector (push-out) transfer trailer

• Material:

o Sides: Minimum 10-gauge high-strength steel

o Floor: Minimum 3/16" high tensile steel (50,000 PSI Minimum Yield)

o Roof: Fully enclosed, reinforced steel construction

• Crossmembers:

o Structural steel crossmembers on 12” centers (minimum)

• Side Posts:

o Reinforced posts on approx. 24” centers

• Top Rail:

o Structural tube steel reinforcement

• Body fully welded, leak-resistant construction

4. EJECTION SYSTEM

• Type: Hydraulic push-out ejector blade system

• Blade:

o Reinforced steel with wear shoes/slides

• Hydraulic Cylinder:

o Heavy-duty telescopic or single-stage cylinder

o Mid-cylinder support required

• System shall provide:

o Smooth, complete load ejection

o Even load distribution during discharge

5. REAR DOOR / TAILGATE

• Type: Sealed rear door (barn door style)

• Hydraulic or manual locking mechanism

• Leak-resistant design suitable for municipal solid waste

• Safety locking system to prevent accidental opening

6. ROOF DESIGN

• Fully enclosed (closed-top)

• Reinforced roof bows/posts

• Designed to:

o Prevent spillage during transport

o Withstand compactor loading forces

7. FRAME & CHASSIS

• Heavy-duty trailer frame suitable for transfer station operations

• Kingpin:

o 36” ON A 3/8” Pin Plate

• Landing Gear:

o Two-speed, heavy-duty landing gear

• ICC bumper compliant with DOT regulations

8. AXLES, SUSPENSION & TIRES

• Axles:

o Tandem or tri-axle configuration

o Rated for legal highway loads

• Suspension:

o Air ride suspension preferred, but not required

• Brakes:

o Air brake system

o ABS required

• Tires:

o 11R22.5 or equivalent

9. HYDRAULIC SYSTEM

• PTO-driven hydraulic system (tractor supplied) or self-contained (if specified)

• Quick-connect hydraulic fittings

• Operating pressure sufficient for full eject cycle under maximum load

• All hoses and fittings rated for heavy-duty refuse applications

10. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

• 12-volt DOT-compliant lighting

• Sealed wiring harness

• LED lighting preferred

11. SAFETY FEATURES

• Backup alarm (if applicable)

• Reflective tape per DOT standards

• Safety props/locks for maintenance

• Emergency shutoff (if hydraulic system is self-contained)
