Purpose

EnergIIZE (Energy Infrastructure Incentives for Zero-Emission) Commercial Vehicles is the nation’s first commercial vehicle fleet infrastructure incentive project. Funded by the California Energy Commission’s Clean Transportation Program and implemented by CALSTART, EnergIIZE Commercial Vehicles provides incentives for zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure equipment for medium- and heavy-duty (MDHD) battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles operated and domiciled in California.

The Transit Set-Aside funding lane is specifically for electric vehicle charging and/or hydrogen refueling infrastructure equipment that will support zero-emission transit buses.

The Transit Set-Aside funding lane pairs infrastructure incentives (EnergIIZE) with vehicle incentives from the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP). Recipients will be selected based on eligibility criteria outlined in detail in the EnergIIZE Transit Set-Aside Application Materials located in the Incentive Processing Center (IPC) on the EnergIIZE website .

Why Transit?
California legislation aims to pair zero-emission vehicle (HVIP) incentives with infrastructure (EnergIIZE) project incentives. Funding was set aside specifically for transit and supports CARB’s

Innovative Clean Transit (ICT) regulation, which sets a goal for public transit agencies to “gradually transition to 100 percent zero-emission bus fleets by 2040.”

Eligible Applicants:

Agencies compliant with the CARB Innovative Clean Transit program, as well as California Native American Tribes, California Tribal Organizations, or non-governmental organizations serving tribal entities.
