Pierce County Department of Emergency Management (PCDEM) operates shelters for impacted communities during an emergency. To successfully operate a shelter, experienced staff are needed to manage daily functions and assist guests with shelter services. PCDEM’s shelter services can vary depending on the size and impact of the incident. For inclement weather events, support may be an accessible warming/cooling tent where a few staff are needed to monitor guests and communicate issues to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Larger incidents may include a full-scale shelter where guests can sleep, eat, and access additional disaster-related services.
