OverviewPost InformationPosted At:Mon, Jan 6, 2025 9:24 AMSealed Bid Process:Yes (Bids Sealed / Pricing Sealed)Private Bid:NoSummaryThe purpose of this Request for Proposals (RFP) is to solicit proposals from qualified licensed consultants for Engineering Services, experienced in preparing Comprehensive Roadway Safety Action Plan and conduct supplemental planning activities.
This project is funded through a Federal grant; therefore, the selected firm must be eligible and able to provide the necessary documentation to satisfy the Federal grant eligibility requirements.
BackgroundThe Town of Herndon is the third-largest town in the Commonwealth of Virginia and home to more than 24,500 residents. Amidst a 21st century Northern Virginia landscape of high-rise buildings, industrial complexes, and transportation hubs, Herndon maintains a small-town charm that is evident in its downtown, its neighborhoods, and its commercial areas.
Herndon’s critical transportation safety issue is that the number of severe injury crashes has reached unacceptable levels. Based on published VDOT crash data, Herndon has the 2nd highest severe injury rate out of 17 Northern Virginia jurisdictions. The severity of crashes is counterintuitive, especially considering there are no posted speeds above 35 mph in the Town. A comprehensive safety strategy is critical to better understand and reverse this troubling trend and to develop a plan to eliminate all injuries and fatal crashes within a realistic timeframe. These efforts align with the recently approved 2024-2029 Strategic Plan goals of providing a convenient and safe interconnected multimodal network and increasing the number of ADA-compliant walkways.
