There are currently 203 schools serving a student population of approximately 161,000, with approximately 20,000staff. Wake County covers 854 square miles. Additional information about the school system can be accessed via the internet site(www.wcpss.net).Purpose and ObjectiveThe Wake County Public School System is seeking to secure a contract, or contracts, to provide Hardwood Floor Refinishing atvarious WCPSS facilities throughout the district now or hereafter owned, leased, or possessed by WCPSS. WCPSS facilities consistof all real property and buildings owned or leased by WCPSS at sites designated.Term of ContractThe contract service shall be for a period of one (1) year and shall begin July 1, 2026, through July 31, 2027, subject to thecontinuation of the program and the availability of funds. The Wake County Public School System reserves the right to extend thecontract for an additional two (2) years, one (1) year periods.Vendor Registration and Solicitation Notification SystemThe NC Electronic Vendor Portal (eVP) allows Vendors to electronically register with the State to receive electronic notification ofcurrent procurement opportunities for goods and services available at the following website: https://evp.nc.gov.This RFP is available electronically on the electronic Vendor Portal (eVP) at the following website: https://evp.nc.gov. Questions regarding the RFP shall be answered per aforementioned instructions.Scope of WorkHardwood Floor Refinishing which includes repainting all existing striping, lettering and logos on hardwood floor. Any changes tologo or lettering will need prior approval and will be quoted separately.WCPSS will not provide power. Contractor must provide generator and include cost of generator in cost per square foot.Contractors are required to utilize dust containment system or cover bleachers and curtains. This cost must be included in the costper square foot.Contractors must have 5 years of minimum experience in the gym floor business and be a member of the MFMA (Maple FlooringManufacturers Association)Sanding: All wood floors shall be sanded with a gym floor sanding set up utilizing 12” sanders and a hydraulic rider. For the firstcut, the floor shall be traversed in both directions, going with the grain of the floor using 40-grit sandpaper. Follow with 60 gritpaper, then with 80 grit, finishing with 100 grit. All cuts should be made with the grain, and rough finish sanding on the diagonalwill not be permitted without specific permission from the owner.Sealing: After sanding, the floor shall be thoroughly swept and vacuumed. Tack the floor with solvent until no traces of sandingdust remain on the floor. With a clean lambswool applicator, apply a liberal coat of sealer (Bona Sports Seal) coating uniformlywith the direction of the grain of the wood. After the first coat is thoroughly dry, usually 12 hours or overnight, the entire surfaceshould be abraded using 120-grit screens under a single-brush floor machine. Floor shall be “tacked” as outlined above, and asecond coat of sealer applied. After drying overnight, the entire surface should be abraded and tacked, in preparation for courtlayout and painting.Court Lining and School Emblems: Mark Game Lines with proper colors according to specifications with the use of a precision tapingmachine for circles and arches. Masking tape should be pulled as soon as the paint starts to set, and it should not be left to standovernight. The paint should be allowed to dry for at least 12 hours.5 | Page
