Attendance atthe pre-bid conference is highly encouraged but is not mandatory.INTRODUCTIONThe Town of Middlebury, VT is requesting proposals from qualified contractors for the replacement of afailed or inoperable waterline valve on an existing 10-inch cast iron mainline located along Route 7 justsouth of the Cady Road intersection and the removal of a catch basin and replacement of a 70’ crossculvert on Cady Rd at the intersection of Route 7. The purpose of this project is to restore full operationalcontrol of the water distribution system as well as upsizing and improving the existing drainage. Work tobe done includes removal of the existing catch basin on the south side of Cady Rd, Upsizing the existing15” x 70’ metal cross culvert to a 18” x 70’ HDPE (Grey Pipe) culvert, replacing the 10-inch valve south ofCady Road, replacing the10-inch Tee at the Cady Road waterline intersection and installing solid sleeveson all connecting 10-inch mains. The work to be performed will replace the infrastructure with new,reliable units in accordance with current industry standards.PROJECT OVERVIEWProject Title: Replacement of 10” Waterline Valve & upsizing 15” Cross CulvertLocation: Route 7 S at Cady RoadExisting Pipe Material: 10” Cast Iron Mainline, 15” x 70’ Metal CulvertProject Scope: Removal and replacement of an existing 10” waterline valve, Removal of existing catchbasin, replacement and upsizing of the existing 15” metal cross culvert to an 18” HDPE cross culvert,including all necessary excavation, pipe cutting, fitting, valve installation, and surface restoration.TOWN OF MIDDLEBURY77 MAIN STREET, MIDDLEBURY, VT 05753SCOPE OF WORKThe Contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, materials unless specified otherwise, and incidentalsrequired to complete the work as described below:Preconstruction Activities• Follow all VOSHA / OSHA regulations and guidelines.• Contact Dig Safe• Contact the Town of Middlebury to locate utilities.• Coordinate with Owner for water shutdown schedules.• Provide traffic control and public notification as required.• Obtain and comply with all required permits (Vtrans State Highway Access and Work in the R.O.WPermit).Valve Replacement• Excavate and expose the existing 10” cast iron mainline.• Safely remove the existing valve and associated fittings.• Install a new 10” resilient Mueller (or approved equivalent) gate valve, open counter clockwise.(Furnished by the Town of Middlebury)• Install a new 10” Tee, Mueller (or approved equivalent). (Furnished by the Town of Middlebury)• Install solid sleeves to reconnect all 10-inch pipe. (Furnished by the Town of Middlebury)• Install a 10-inch to 8-inch reducer on Route 7 mainline. (Furnished by the Town of Middlebury)• Install new mechanical joint restraints, gaskets, bolts, and accessories. (Furnished by the Town ofMiddlebury)• Ensure all fittings are compatible with cast iron pipe connections.• Conduct pressure and leakage testing per AWWA C600 standards.• Receive acceptance of work from Town of Middlebury Director of Operations or WaterDepartment prior to backfill.Removal of Catch Basin / Replacement of Cross Culvert• Safely excavate and remove existing catch basin and 15” cross culvert.• Install new 18”x70’ HDPE cross culvert.
