Bid Title: 2026 Request for Proposals Street Tree Planting Services Spring-Fall
Category: Bid Postings Status: Open Description: The City of Oconomowoc is soliciting proposals from qualified and experienced contractors to furnish all labor, equipment, materials, and supervision necessary to plant street trees within public rights-of-way in the city. This project supports the Municipality’s urban forestry program goals, including canopy expansion, species diversity, public safety, and long-term tree health.
The selected Contractor will purchase, house and plant new street trees during the spring and fall, 2026 planting seasons. Work will generally include site preparation, tree delivery, planting, staking (only if needed), mulching, watering at installation, adding tree protectors, initial inspection, follow up weekly watering for a total of 4 additional times and replacement of dead/failing trees during the one-year warranty period.
Estimated Quantity: Approximately 309 trees shall be split up for spring (170) and fall (139) season planting for optimal species diversity. All tree species will be determined by the Municipality’s representative (City Forester)
Planting Locations: Public rights-of-way, terraces, boulevards within the municipality. All site locations will be pre-marked and determined by the City Forester and/or City Arborist

Scope of Work3.1 Tree Nursery Stock Specifications• Street tree species, quantities and locations will be determined by the Municipality’srepresentative (City Forester)• The Contractor will be ordering and housing all trees for planting. Pre-approvednurseries include Breezy Hill Nursery, Johnson’s Nursery, Leaves Inspired Nursery,McKay’s Nursery, Wayside Nursery• All trees will be nursery grown ball and burlap tree caliper sizes: Diameter measured at6 inches above grade (per ANSI Z60.2) and be between 1.5"– 2.5"• Size of root balls and tree height range shall comply with ANSI Z60.2 section 2.1.2standards for nursery stock specifications for type 1 shade trees as shown below:• Trees will all be single stem, Type 1 shade trees, have a strong central leader,well-developed branches with a fibrous root system, and the trees will be free fromdefect, decay, sunscald, abrasions, disease and insects• Tree species listed could change based on nursery availability. Final list of street treeswith planting locations will be agreed upon by the Contractor and the Municipality3.2 Tree Planting SpecificationsA. All work shall comply with:• ANSI A300 (Parts 1 & 10, as applicable)• ANSI Z60.2 – 2025 American Standard for Nursery Stock• Best Management Practices (BMPs) of the International Society of Arboriculture(ISA)• City of Oconomowoc ordinance chapter 8A, urban forestry plantingspecifications:o Minimum distance from the corner of an intersection to plant a streettree in the right-of-way shall be 25' for vision clearanceo Tree planting locations for underground utilities are to be kept:▪ Gas line mains5' away minimum▪ Water & sewer lines or laterals10' away minimum▪ Power lines (primary & secondary)24” away minimum▪ Cable & phone lines24” away minimumo Tree planting locations for above ground facilities are to be kept:▪ Driveways and alleys10' away minimum▪ Light poles10' away minimum▪ Fire hydrants10' away minimum• All addresses with planned street trees shall be notified ahead of planting timewith door hangers for the proposed tree planting markings and locations by theMunicipality• Any tree planting locations that possibly conflict with underground utilities, theContractor shall contact the Municipality’s representative for alternative plantingsites and record this on the provided spreadsheetB. Minimum tree planting requirements include:• Proper tree planting hole dimensions (minimum size will be 2 times the size ofthe root ball width; planting depth to be no deeper than the root flare)• All trees shall be planted in the center (between the street curb and the sidewalklocation) of the rights-of-way at all locations• All transported trees, the canopies shall be covered or tarped duringtransportation from the municipal yard to the planting site to prevent wind scorch• Root flare visible at finished grade (see photo below of the original ball soil depthfrom the nursery after we carefully shaved the root ball down)
