Materials

SPECIFICATIONS FOR STREET and WATER DEPARTMENT MATERIALS

M-1 - AGGREGATE

All aggregate proposed to be furnished shall conform to the current Ohio Department of Transportation

Construction and Material Specification for the various sizes, grades and materials. Washed stone, when

bid, shall be washed in clean water so as to remove dust and other objectionable foreign materials, and

shall be crushed to the correct gradation.

All prices are to be for aggregate in various sizes, loaded in trucks at the bidders Plant/Yard or delivered

to the designated location within the City of Wadsworth.

M-2 - ASPHALT MATERIALS

All asphalt material proposed to be furnished shall conform to the current Ohio Department of

Transportation Construction and Material Specification 441 for the various grades and types of material

as proposed, using an all limestone aggregate, unless specified otherwise.

The material specification for each item shall be as follows.

ODOT 441 Asphalt Materials, Type 1, PG 64-22, Limestone

ODOT 441 Asphalt Materials, Type 2, PG 64-22, Limestone

ODOT 301 Asphalt Base, Limestone

ODOT 441 Asphalt Materials, Type 1, PG 64-22, 20% Recycle

ODOT 441 Asphalt Materials, Type 2, PG 64-22, 30% Recycle

ODOT 301 Asphalt Base, 50% Recycle

Asphalt Cold Mix, Summer and Winter Mixes

Special, Asphalt Concrete, Surface and Intermediate,

For 'ODOT 441 and 301 Asphalt Materials', the supplier shall provide the City with an ODOT approved

mix design prior to final acceptance. The City will review the specification and may purchase the material

at the price bid as deemed appropriate.

For 'Asphalt Cold Mix, Summer and Winter Mixes', The Bidder shall provide the mix design to be supplied

for both summer or winter use. The supplier shall state any proprietary mix being supplied (HPM, UPM,

PennDOT 485, etc), and provide the cost per Ton of the material provided. If a proprietary mix is not

being used, the contractor shall provide the mix design being specified, prior to final acceptance. The City

will review the specification and may purchase the material at the price bid, as deemed appropriate.

For 'Special, Asphalt Concrete, Surface and Intermediate', allows the Bidder to provide the name and

specifications for a proven mix design, and provide a cost per Ton of the material. The Bidder must

supply the mix design with the bid. The City will review the specification and may purchase the material at

the price bid as deemed appropriate.

The item shall be picked up at the Bidder’s Plant/Yard, or delivered to the designated location within the

City of Wadsworth, Ohio, at the prices bid for each item. Quantities are to be delivered as needed.

M-3 - PAVEMENT CRACK FILLING SEALANT

The crack filling material shall be a hot-pour petroleum based pavement sealant formulated to meet all

requirements as specified, and in accordance with the current Ohio Department of Transportation

Construction and Material Specifications for 702.17 Crack Sealant Types I, II, III & IV. All sealant

materials must be pre-mixed.

The Bidder shall provide the manufacturer's product name and specifications with the bid to show

compliance prior to acceptance. The City will order the desired quantity of crack sealant based on price

and appropriate application.

The item bid shall be delivered to the designated location within the City of Wadsworth, Ohio, on pallets,

and paid per pound at the unit price bid.

M-4 – TOPSOIL MATERIALS

Furnish double shredded and screened topsoil shall conform to the current Ohio Department of

Transportation Construction and Material Specification Item 653.02, as per plan. Topsoil shall be loose,

friable, loamy material without admixture of subsoil or refuse. The fraction passing the No. 10 sieve shall

not contain more than 40% clay. The topsoil shall consist of not less than 4 percent and not more than 20

percent organic matter as determined by loss on ignition of samples oven dried to constant weight at 212

° F (100 ° C). Furnish topsoil that is free of grass, glass, metals, brush, and roots. City reserves the right

to purchase from another bidder if delivered topsoil is not of acceptable quality.

The item shall be picked up at the Bidder’s Plant/Yard, or delivered to the designated location within the

City of Wadsworth, Ohio at the prices bid for each item.

CONCRETE

C-1 CLASS QC1 CONCRETE

All concrete proposed to be furnished shall conform to the current Ohio Department of Transportation

Construction and Material Specification, Item 499 for Class QC1 Concrete, as per plan, as modified

herein.

Concrete shall reach a compressive strength of 4000 psi at 28 days using No. 57 limestone and a

maximum water-cement ratio of 0.50%. No pozzolan Materials will be permitted in the mix.

The supplier shall provide the City with an ODOT approved mix design prior to final acceptance.

The concrete shall be delivered in trucks with automated shoots to be able to control the placement of the

concrete at the needed location. If automated shoots are not available, we request that the driver be

responsible for guiding the concrete shoot to the desired location.

The price bid shall be the delivered price per cubic yard to a designated site within the City of Wadsworth,

Ohio. Any and all additional charges shall be stated on the bid form (small load, delivery, demurrage,

etc.). Any additional charges will be declined at the time of invoicing if not included with the bid.

C-2 LOW STRENGTH MORTAR BACKFILL

The low strength mortar to be furnished for backfill material shall conform to the current Ohio Department

of Transportation Construction and Material Specification, Item 613 Low Strength Mortar Backfill, Type

2.

The supplier shall provide the City with an ODOT approved mix design prior to acceptance.

The item shall be the delivered to the designated location within the City of Wadsworth, Ohio at the unit

price bid.

C-3 MASONRY CEMENT

All cement shall be Type M for mortar conforming to the current Ohio Department of Transportation

Construction and Material Specification, Item 701.07 and ASTM Spec. C 91.

The item bid shall be the delivered at the price bid per 80 lb. bag delivered on minimum 40 bag pallets to

Wadsworth, Ohio.

ICE

I-1 ICE MELT

All ice melt material proposed to be furnished shall meet the following conditions:

Will not harm carpets, floors, concrete, grass, trees, shrubs, vegetation, or skin.

Will melt below 0F. Will not clump or harden.

Supplier must furnish written statement confirming such from supplier or manufacturer.

Ice melt material shall be Safe Step, manufactured by Vigoro, or an approved equal.

I-2 CALCIUM CHLORIDE

The Calcium Chloride to be furnished shall be in liquid form and shall be a 32% solution. An accepted

brand shall be Liquidow or approved equal.

The price bid shall be per gallon delivered to The City of Wadsworth in bulk tanker in quantities of 1000

gallon per delivery.
