OverviewPost InformationPosted At:Tue, Mar 25, 2025 10:00 AMSealed Bid Process:Yes (Bids Sealed / Pricing Sealed)Private Bid:NoSummaryThe City of Pontiac is seeking a professional organization who is capable of providing training and resources for opioid addiction in the City of Pontiac. The organization will provide education to the public about prevention strategies, how to access treatment, and how to build stronger support networks. Local communities will be equipped with the tools to confront the opioid crisis with compassion, awareness, and the necessary skills to intervene effectively and support individuals in need.
BackgroundIn 2021, nationwide settlements were reached to resolve all opioids litigation brought by states and local political subdivisions against the three largest pharmaceutical distributors and their parent company, five pharmacy chains. These National Settlements have been finalized, and payments have already begun and will continue over multiple years per the settlements.
The City of Pontiac is a beneficiary of the above-mentioned settlements via the State of Michigan and has received $694,807.22 to date. Below is a breakdown of how the opioid money can be utilized:
- States are required to spend at least 70% of their share of the national settlements on future opioid remediation.
- A maximum of 15% can be spent on opioid crisis-related reimbursement and administrative expenses (i.e. past expenses).
- A maximum of 15% can be spent on non- opioid remediation expenses (e.g. to pave roads, or other government supported work and activities)
