Replacement of Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge over Grand River
All Contractors,
Norfolk Southern is requesting proposals for the subject project per the documentation
Grand River S 189.19. Please complete the survey confirming your participation HERE
for this project by April 13, 2026 if you plan on participating. Do not respond if you are not
attending.
The mandatory pre-bid meeting and job showing for this project will be held at 9:00 AM CST
on April 14, 2026 at The Knight & Rucker Banquet Hall located at 119 E Broadway St.
Brunswick, MO 65236 followed by a site visit. Details regarding access to the bridge site will
be discussed at the pre-bid meeting. Any questions can be directed to Chief Engineer
Bridges & Structures, Ruth Brown, at 404-205-2615.
The contractor’s scope of work is to include:
Replacement of the 536-foot section of the bridge over Grand River within the same
alignment as the existing bridge. An access road will be constructed from the nearby
highway entrance to the existing construction lay down areas at the east end of the
existing bridge. Foundation construction will involve two new piers, one new
abutment and two existing piers to be modified. Piers will utilize drilled shafts for the
deep foundation, and the abutment will utilize driven piles. Superstructure
construction for two through plate girder spans of 99.5 feet in length each, one
through truss span of 302 feet in length, and one deck plate girder of 31 feet in
length (536 feet in total). These spans will utilize a steel ballast pan with
waterproofing.
Contractor must meet and maintain all permitting requirements associated with the
project.
Pre-bid meeting attendees should bring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including
safety hardhat, eye and hearing protection, reflectorized vest, flashlight, and steel-toed
footwear and plan on inspecting the worksite. Attendees without PPE available for their use
may not be allowed onto the worksite location. Pre-bid meeting attendees are restricted to
the meeting location listed above and are not permitted to enter other areas of Railway’s
property without proper escort by an Officer of Norfolk Southern.

Deadline for Bid Questions Round 2: Tuesday May 19, 2026 at 5:00 PM EST – email to
Ruth Brown.
In order for your bid to considered, you must submit the following documents upon
approval of qualifications:
Completed Proposal Form
Completed Bid Sheet
Certificate of Insurance to comply with the insurance requirements as per the Contractor
Qualification Requirements.
Bids will be scored on price and time to complete. Contractors must be enrolled in
ERailsafe, have completed Roadway Worker Protection training, have experience with
on-track equipment, and meet the requirements under 49 CFR 214, 49 CFR 243 or the
drug testing requirements of 49 CFR 219. Contractors must also be enrolled in ISN and
having a passing grade of A/B or have an approved variance.
