SummaryThe City of St. Petersburg, Florida is seeking the services of a qualified construction management firm interested in providing construction management services for the 6th A/S Infrastructure and Structural Improvements Project. This project includes the replacement of approximately 3,120 linear feet of 16-inch ductile iron potable water main along 6th Avenue South from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South to 3rd Street South.
The City of St. Petersburg owns and operates a 16-inch ductile iron potable water main along 6th Avenue South that provides water to the Bayfront Hospital complex. This project will replace approximately 3,120 LF of 16-inch ductile iron potable water main along 6th Avenue South from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South to 3rd Street South. The project includes the appropriate testing and disinfection of the proposed water main, connection to the existing water mains at each end of the project and to existing services, associated valves, fittings, fire hydrant assemblies, and appurtenances required to replace the existing 16-inch water main.
Following the pipeline construction, a roadway project will be implemented (City Project No. 18108-112) to modify 6th Avenue South corridor and create a separated bikeway on the south side of the roadway, which is intended to connect to the Booker Creek Trail. The separated bikeway is a key recommendation of the Innovation District Streetscape and Connectivity Plan and will be constructed in conjunction with milling and resurfacing of the full roadway.
BackgroundBayfront Hospital has expanded an emergency ambulance ramp and needed to relocate a 16" ductile iron water main that runs from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South to 3rd Street South on 6th Avenue South. Construction work in the area caused damage to several portions of the pipeline and the City has replaced several sections of pipe in this corridor.
This project addresses an area of existing water mains within the City's distribution system that have become a high maintenance problem due to the age of the pipe and the material. Pipe failure can result in water loss and/or interruption of service, road surface, and easement damage, as well as present other financial liabilities. Additionally, recent changes in disinfection and pending changes in water chemistry raise concerns of the impact to unlined and galvanized pipe in the distribution system.
