OverviewPost InformationPosted At:Wed, Sep 3, 2025 11:22 AMSealed Bid Process:Yes (Bids Sealed / Pricing Sealed)Private Bid:NoSummaryRequest for Retrofit of 2022 Chevy Silverado with Burner 450/100 Skid System and Remote-Controlled AFFF Turret Nozzle
Requesting the feasibility and cost of retrofitting a 2022 Chevy Silverado 4500 with specialized fire suppression equipment. Specifically, we are seeking the retrofit of an existing of a Burner 450/150 skid system with a front-mounted turret nozzle capable of dispensing F3 Fluorine Free Foam.
The following are the key requirements for this retrofit:
-
Skid Unit: Burner 450/150 system or equivalent, securely mounted in the bed of the truck.
-
Nozzle System: A front-mounted turret nozzle capable of dispensing Fluorine Free Foam, suitable for rapid deployment in fire suppression operations.
-
Control Mechanism: The turret nozzle must be remotely operated from within the cab by the driver. A joystick-type control device is preferred for intuitive and precise directional operation of the nozzle.
BackgroundThe 2022 Chevy Silverado 4500 has been used as a dedicated Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) unit to support emergency response operations at our small regional airport. The airport services a variety of general aviation and light commercial aircraft, including both high- and low-wing fixed-wing aircraft as well as helicopters, necessitating a flexible and maneuverable fire suppression platform capable of operating in diverse apron, taxiway, and off-runway environments.
Given the airport’s limited resources and relatively low call volume, a full-size ARFF apparatus is not operationally or financially feasible. Instead, the Silverado 4500 offers an ideal balance of payload capacity, off-road capability, and customization flexibility, making it well-suited for rapid intervention in the event of fuel spills, engine fires, hard landings, or rotorcraft incidents.
The vehicle is being equipped with a Burner 450/100 skid unit—providing 450 gallons of water and 100 gallons of foam concentrate—alongside a front-mounted, remotely controlled turret nozzle capable of delivering Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF). The system is operated from within the cab by the driver using a joystick-type control, allowing for immediate engagement and accurate application of foam while maintaining vehicle mobility and crew safety.
This ARFF configuration ensures:
-
Rapid response times across varied terrain including paved runways and grassy infields.
-
Precise foam application for quick containment of fuel fires on and around aircraft of varying profiles.
-
Crew protection by enabling in-cab operations during initial suppression efforts.
