This phase marks thefirst step in implementing a comprehensive, community-informed system designed to helpresidents and visitors navigate Town safely, efficiently, and intuitively while reinforcing Telluride’shistoric character and sense of place.The selected contractor will be responsible for producing high-quality, durable signage thatreflects the approved design standards developed through the Wayfinding Program. Work willinclude fabrication, delivery, installation, and coordination with Town staff to ensure all elementsmeet project specifications, integrate with existing infrastructure, and comply with local, state, andfederal requirements.Phase I signage is intended to enhance clarity, accessibility, and mobility throughout Telluride’score areas, supporting multimodal travel and strengthening the visual identity of the Town. PhasesII through V will continue to focus on pedestrian, multimodal, and vehicular wayfinding,placemaking, and signage and is expected to be designed, fabricated, and installed on an annualbasis as budget allocations allow. This RFP outlines the required services, performanceexpectations, submittal requirements, and evaluation criteria for firms interested in partnering withthe Town to bring this important project to life.BackgroundThe Town of Telluride has undertaken a multi-year effort to improve wayfinding, placemaking,and pedestrian mobility throughout the community. In 2023, the Town initiated a comprehensiveWayfinding, Placemaking, and Signage Program to create a unified system that enhancesnavigation, supports multimodal travel, and strengthens Telluride’s unique historic and culturalidentity. Through extensive community engagement, site analysis, and design development, theprogram has produced a full suite of sign types, locations, and design standards intended toimprove the visitor experience while meeting the day-to-day needs of residents.In 2024 and 2025, the Town worked with its design consultant, Guide Studio, to refine signfamily designs, identify priority corridors, and establish a phased implementation plan. Phase Ifocuses on high-impact locations within the Town’s core and key arrival points, includingpedestrian routes, parking areas, and major public destinations. This phase emphasizes clarity,ADA accessibility, multimodal support, and consistency with the Town’s National HistoricLandmark District guidelines.The Town is now moving into the first phase of physical implementation and is seeking anexperienced fabrication and installation partner to bring the approved designs to life. This workrepresents a significant investment in long-term community mobility, visitor orientation, andplacemaking, and will serve as the foundation for future phases of the program.Scope of Work4The selected Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, and services necessary tofabricate, deliver, and install signage as outlined in the Town of Telluride’s Wayfinding,Placemaking, and Signage Program. Work must comply with the approved design intent,specifications, material standards, and installation details provided by the Town and its designconsultant.1. Project CoordinationThe Contractor shall:• Participate in a project kickoff meeting with Town staff and the design consultant.• Review all design documents, sign schedules, material specifications, andlocation plans prior to fabrication.• Provide a detailed project timeline including submittal milestones, fabricationwindows, and installation sequencing.• Maintain regular communication with Town staff to report progress, identifychallenges, and coordinate field decisions.2. FabricationThe Contractor shall fabricate all signage elements identified in Phase I, including butnot limited to:• Pedestrian wayfinding signs• Vehicular directional signs• Parking signs and regulatory information panels• Trail and pathway orientation signs• Gateway or placemaking elements (as applicable in Phase I)Fabrication requirements include:• Use of approved materials, colors, finishes, and construction methods asspecified in the design standards.• Production of shop drawings for all sign types for review and approval by theTown before fabrication begins.• Creation of prototypes or material samples upon request.• Ensuring durability, weather resistance, and long-term maintainability suitable forTelluride’s alpine environment.3. Permitting and ComplianceThe Contractor shall:• Comply with all Town, state, and federal requirements for signage installation, asapplicable.• Coordinate utility locates and safety measures prior to installation.• Ensure all signs comply with ADA, MUTCD, and local historic district guidelineswhere applicable.4. Delivery and InstallationThe Contractor shall:• Deliver all fabricated signage to designated Town locations in good condition.5
