The City of Arlington is seeking an independent contractor skilled in social media content creation for our "Meet Me in Arlington" program, an online destination marketplace supporting small businesses. We are seeking an individual with a passion for the small business community, experience in building engaging community profiles, and strong storytelling abilities. Prefer someone with local knowledge of our business community.

Compensation: $1000 month contract. Work can be performed remotely and includes on-site at local businesses.

Sample of Work to be Performed

1) Tools, Skills, and Style Guide

  • Knowledge of editing tools and software that helps you deliver quality efficiently.
  • Familiarity with Canva (templates, quick graphics, light edits).
  • Experience with common photo/video tools (e.g., Lightroom, CapCut or equivalents).
  • Match Meet Me in Arlington’s seasonal look and feel (brand colors, fonts, templates; short, plain-language captions and clear calls to action like “shop, stay, play, explore”).

2) Monthly Content Plan

  • Maintain a flexible content calendar shared internally for the Meet Me in Arlington program.
  • Review the City of Arlington events calendar to gather information for monthly content planning related to business community activities.
  • Plan to highlight businesses from the current marketplace list.
  • Schedule a time to take product photos for featured businesses for upload to the marketplace. Research recent product posts on the business’s social media for marketplace use.
  • Submit the content calendar for approval by the first business day of each month.
  • Work closely with City’s Communication team.

3) Capture Marketplace Product Photos

  • Capture product photos from participating businesses for the Meet Me in Arlington marketplace. Edit the images, then send them to the City for uploading. Locate recent product posts on the business’ social media for product upload.

4) Create Content for Social

  • Build a simple shot list for each reel (outside, inside, products, people).
  • Plan, shoot, and edit vertical short-form content: Reels, photos, and graphics.
  • Create multiple assets for each business we feature in a reel: one Reel, a feed post, Stories, and a Facebook post.
  • Post natively on Instagram and Facebook.
  • Tag businesses, apply local hashtags, add geo-tags, and share to Arlington Living and other relevant community pages when appropriate.
  • Repurpose across channels while keeping copy/format native to each platform.

5) Weekly Expected Deliverables

  • 2 native posts per week (Instagram and Facebook).
  • 1 vertical Reel per week.
  • 2–3 business reposts per week (existing business posts).
  • Provide minimum of 3 new retail product images to the City each week for marketplace upload.

6) Engage with Public

  • Reply to comments, direct messages, like/comment on local posts.
  • Track performance of Meet Me in Arlington campaigns (use post tagging and metrics).
  • Provide a brief monthly report highlighting top-performing content and insights.

7) Submit and Coordinate

  • Submit the monthly content calendar and the monthly report by the first business day of each month.
  • Deliver marketplace product photo sets to the City on a rolling basis and no later than the monthly reporting deadline.
