Bid Title: Mowing Contract 2026-2028
Category: Services Status: Open Description: The City of Rock Island is seeking proposals for mowing services for public property in the City of Rock Island. The areas to be mowed are distributed among 135 locations for a total of approximately 158 acres. This will be a three-year contract with the option to extend for one year.

A Mandatory pre-opening informational meeting will be held at 09:00 am on Monday March 2, 2026 in the Public Works Conference Room (1309 Mill Street, Rock Island, IL 61201). Submission of the bid will be construed as evidence of understanding of the issues and resolutions determined at the pre-opening informational meeting, and not later claims for labor or equipment required or for difficulties encountered will NOT be approved.

Work shall continuethrough November 1 of each year, subject to conditions.Tri-Weekly (86.33 acres, blue) – Areas to be mowed will be maintained at a height not toexceed six (10) inches or mowed once every three weeks, whichever comes first. Vegetationnext to light poles, trees and any permanent objects etc., shall be mechanically trimmed tothe same height as specified above at the time of each mowing. All grass clippings and debris,shall be removed from the sidewalks, parking lots, and streets etc. at the time the cuttingtakes place.Bi-Weekly (55.43 acres, orange) – Areas to be mowed will be maintained at a height not toexceed six (6) inches or mowed once every two weeks, whichever comes first. Vegetation nextto light poles, trees and any permanent objects etc., shall be mechanically trimmed to thesame height as specified above at the time of each mowing. All grass clippings and debris,shall be removed from the sidewalks, parking lots, and streets etc. at the time the cuttingtakes place.Weekly (16.44 acres, red) – all weekly lawn areas shall be fine cut mowing. All areas shallbe mowed every week, throughout the growing season unless otherwise directed by the City.Areas to be mowed will be maintained at a height of four (4) inches. Grass next to light poles,trees, and permanent objects etc., shall be mechanically trimmed to the same height asspecified above at the time of each mowing. All grass clippings and debris, shall be removedfrom sidewalks, parking lots, and streets etc. at the time cutting takes place.Contractor is expected to be familiar with all areas and locations of the work and if they arenot, shall have those questions answered before commencing work on this contract.Contractor must be able to receive requests via email, phone and text messages.All mowing in the downtown area, bounded by 11th Street to 24th Street and extending northfrom 4th Avenue, shall be freshly mowed 48 hours prior to Memorial Day, Independence Day,and Labor Day, unless otherwise directed by the City of Rock Island.The Municipal Services Superintendent or designee(s) shall be the sole judge as to whetherthe Contractor's work conforms to the specifications.5|Page
