SummaryThe Ketchikan Gateway Borough is seeking the services of a qualified designer/planner to develop a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, in compliance with the U.S. Department of Transportation's General Terms and Conditions under the Fiscal Year 2022 Safe Streets and Roads for All ("SS4A") Grant Program. This project will establish design standards, set priorities, and actions necessary to enhance roadway safety throughout the Borough, with the focus on all user classes including: pedestrians, bicyclists, public transportation users, ATV and motorcyclists, motorists, personal conveyance and micromobility users, and commercial vehicle operators, in order to create and implement a long-term strategy for enhancing safety on the Borough's roadways.
BackgroundKetchikan Gateway Borough would like to create a SS4A Plan with the framework to improve roadway safety and reduce or eliminate the number of roadway injuries and fatalities. This plan would consider all users sharing the roadway, utilizing any mode of transportation within our community. The development of this plan would include a collaboration with local stakeholders and community members, as well as guidance from FHWA's safe system approach and SS4A's action Plan Components. The safety plan will also address advancing sustainability, future growth and mitigating climate change.
