Overview
Summary

Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services (DAVS) is accepting letters of interest from service providers to deliver group Evidence Based Health Promotion classes supporting unpaid family and friend caregivers of older adults at various sites throughout Washington County. These Evidence-Based Programs may include: Powerful Tools for Caregivers (PTC), SAVVY Caregiver, Stress-Busting Program for Family Caregivers, and other group caregiver training as identified in Best Programs for Caregiving: Database of Proven Dementia Care Programs for Family Caregivers .

Background

Disability, Aging and Veteran Services (DAVS) serves as the Washington County Area Agency on Aging, responsible for coordinating and developing services for older adults sixty (60) years of age and older, and younger people living with physical disabilities ages 19 to 59. DAVS receives funding through the Older Americans Act, Oregon Department of Human Services, and a variety of other federal, local and grant sources. Recipients of services also may make contributions that are applied directly towards the cost of services received.

The Family Caregiver Support Program supports unpaid family and friend caregivers (age 18 years or older) caring for someone over the age of 60 years, any age with a dementia related diagnosis, an older relative (age 55 or older) raising a relative child, or a parent living with and caring for an adult child with disabilities.

Unpaid caregivers comprise a key cornerstone of our community and are represented by family members, friends, and chosen family. This responsibility of caregiving impacts the whole life of an individual including increased: financial burden and impacts on employment, stress and burden affecting physical and mental health of caregivers, and increased isolation as more time and energy is spent on providing care.

The Family Caregiver Support Program aims to support our community of unpaid caregivers through a variety of services authorized through the Older Americans Act Title III-E with the goal of helping them meet the challenges of their caregiving role and provide care for their care partner at home for as long as possible.
