Current Benefit Overview –
- Medical - The City’s medical and PBM are administered by Aetna. The City’s dental plan is administered by Delta Dental. One plan is available (includes medical, dental, and Rx) to employees with 4 tiers (Employee, Employee + Spouse, Employee + Child(ren), and Employee + Family). The plan is not grandfathered under the PPACA. The City’s insurance plans are self-funded. Lawrence’s Stop Loss carrier is SunLife and is put up for bid each year. Individual Stop Loss is 125,000.
- Section 125 FSA Accounts – Healthcare and Dependent Care accounts are available. It is administered by Inspira Financial Health Inc.
- Life Insurance – Optional Life Insurance is offered through Mutual of Omaha. Employees are already offered life insurance through KPERS or death benefits through KP&F, as guaranteed by their position at the City.
- Ancillary Insurance – Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity are offered through Unum. Identity theft insurance is offered through Norton LifeLock.

BackgroundCity of Lawrence, KS (pop. 95,000) is a vibrant, growing city that is strategically located between Kansas City and Topeka. The City employs 844 benefit eligible employees . 817 employees, their 1,137 dependents, 71 retirees, and their 24 dependents (2,038 covered lives) participate in the City’s medical, dental, and prescription insurance plans. The City’s benefit year runs from January 1 to December 31. Open Enrollment and all meetings are held during October.
